There is something magical about photography. I love that we are able to hold onto memories in such a tangible form. The excitement of seeing photos from your wedding, a vacation, or an engagement session is similar to that feeling of waking up on Christmas morning.
why i do what i do
I feel so very connected to God in nature. Being surrounded by vast landscapes, feeling small in a big big world puts things into perspective. When taking photos, for me, a lot of it has to do with the environment I'm in. Every person's story is different and I think it is so beautifully reflected in photos the way every photo session is different. The weather will paint a different story than it did the day before. The positioning of the sun in the sky adds a whole new colour palette by the hour, and so on.
And places can have such meaning to us, and to capture your love story in a setting that is meaningful to you... there's nothing quite like that.

For the longest time, I never expected photography to be my career. In 2015 my aunt, my mom, and I packed our bags for a dream vacation: Iceland. For the trip there was nothing I wanted more than a great camera to document the incredible beauty of the Icelandic landscapes, so we made that happen. Once I was in Iceland I fell in love with the country and how immense and inspiring it all was. When we returned from our trip, I had so many pictures I wanted to share that I created a separate instagram account. From there many friends inquired and requested I take couples photos for them: and there it was: Carmen Alexandra Photography. I never looked back after that-- I found my passion.
Though my style has changed a lot over the years, one thing has remained: my desire to create something true, beautiful, and lasting.
I live in South Carolina with my husband, Ben, and our cat Reyna. I love spending time outside, by the water with a good book in my hand. My favorite part of the day is coming home and making chocolate chip cookies, playing board games, and spending time with friends outside.

Every part of God's creation inspires me. Even the small things speak to the grandeur of this life. Spending time in nature and capturing moments that matter to us in the midst of all of it... just wow.
my favorite movie
I love rom-coms. I honestly don't venture outside of that genre, when I watch movies I enjoy something happy and lighthearted. My favorites are: Crazy, Stupid Love, Sweet Home Alabama, and the Parent Trap
favorite ice cream flavor
I love ice cream. My favorite is probably by Jeni's ice creams: Texas Sheet Cake. But I love anything super chocolatey.
any random hobbies?
I love antiques. I love spending hours perusing through an antique store, I feel like I learn so much any time I do. There is so much beauty in the craftsmanship that I find so inspiring.
favorite coffee drink?
I love coffee. Every morning i have a black cup of coffee, but if I'm going to a shop I will order one of these things:
- espresso
- pourover (I love Kenyan coffee the most!)
- cappuccino
what kind of music do you listen to?
I'm very into the dream pop genre lately, and I would say Beach House is my favorite artist. I also love Sabrina Carpenter, and Steffany Gretzinger. A handful of others I enjoy: Kan Sano, Washed Out, Nation of Language, and Beach Fossils
what do you do in your free time?
I love to read. similar to my movie taste-- rom coms. Lately I have been loving all of Emily Henry's books. I also love board games. Play nine and skip bo are my favorites, but Uno is a classic as well. I also love taking photos with my point and shoot film camera while hanging out with friends!
